I heart bakin' (and bacon)

I wish I had more occasions to bake because I think it's really fun.  It's probably the only borderline creative thing I like to do (I guess blogging is somewhat creative).  Please come over to my home so I can have a reason to bake a special treat.

GFGSC (guilt free Girl Scout cookies)

"Sugar Free Chocolate Chips: New for 2008, Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Cookies give those who need or prefer sugar free products have a new way to support Girl Scouting—and a scrumptious new snack at bedtime, or any time! They are made by Little Brownie Bakers."
***
I gave this cookie three stars because they taste rather good (for being sugar free). They taste like graham crackers with chocolate chips. Don't eat too many though. The sugar substitute is sorbitol so they may leave you a little gassy if 2 servings (6 cookies) are consumed at a sitting.
$4 outside your local grocery store
160 calories for 3 cookies
15 cookies in the box

Favorite "Guilt-Free" Foods

In order to keep the weight I lost off, I have replaced some of my fattening foods with healthier alternatives.

String cheese is a great source of protein and is very filling. I tend to buy the "light" string cheese also because it is also lower in fat. It isn't as stringy as regular string cheese but it's still good tasting.

Dannon Light& Fit is my absolute favorite yogurt. It has no fat and has no sugar added (uses some splenda) so it only contains 60 calories. My favorite flavor is blueberry.

I have a bowl of Uncle Same cereal almost everyday. It's made with whole grains and flax seed. It has 10g of fiber a serving so it leaves me full for hours. It can be found at Trader Joe's (cheapest) and Albertson's.
These fudge bars are great! Depending one what brand you buy, they only have 60-90 calories a bar because they are sweetened with splenda. Have I mentioned how much I love splenda?

What are some of your healthy foods or guilt free snacks?

Success!

Almond Roca success! The recipe was a lot harder than I thought it would be but luckiy my mom is a pro.

(My dad took this picture. As he took it he said, "Ready. Set....oops." Nobody said that engineers are camera experts.)

Cookies!

I bought all the ingredients yesterday to make these...

and these...

and these...

and these...

Although these cookies look scrump-ditty, I still hold a special place in my heart for my family's traditional Christmas cookies. I have a few memories of making Christmas cookies with my mom and grandma from when I was a child. Good times. My favorite Christmas cookies that they would make were the almond roca cookies, spritz and the 7-layer bar (nothing like 7 layer dip). I could eat dozens of those.

Maybe (if I'm lucky), my mom can teach me how to make the almond roca tonight.

makes my mouth water

This will be the last year that my Grandma Torseth will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner. My grandparents are moving into a retirement community this spring so no more family gathers at their home in "west seattle" (my dad calls it west seattle but the rest of the world calls it white center). In honor of our last Thanksgiving at their house, I've prepared a list of my favorite Thanksgiving foods.

Favorite Thanksgiving foods:

1. turkey (with gravy and cranberry)
2. pumpkin pie
3. stuffing (nothing fancy, just with a drizzle of gravy and mixed with cranberry)
3. grandma's rolls (I could probably eat a dozen or so)
4. mashed potatoes (no gravy, just butter)
5. grandma's corn pudding...similar to corn casserole or corn pudding

All of my favorites will be present this year at our family feast.

Not my favorite Thanksgiving foods:

1. pickled herring (not even worth putting on the plate but a favorite of the Scandinavians)
2. jello salad- it's not that it tastes bad, it's just that plate space is very important on Thanksgiving
3. anything green- vegetables should be outlawed on this holiday.

Sapporo

We tried a new restaurant last night. Although we had already eaten dinner, Dusty had a craving for some sake. I told him we should probably order other stuff as not to be rude. The food was great. I guess this place is known all over for having great sushi. It can get pretty busy because of that though.
